When your Verizon cellular service contract is up and you decide to renew, you usually get a new phone out of the deal. Unfortunately, that leaves you with an old phone you don't need. While many Verizon outlets and even grocery stores have a phone recycling program, you may want to sell yours instead to earn some extra money.

Instructions

   Delete all of your personal information from the Verizon phone before attempting to sell it. Remove all of your saved contacts, text messages and downloaded files so that the new owner of the phone cannot access them.

   Go through all of the different programs and features on the phone to make sure everything is working properly. Visually check the phone to ensure there aren't any serious scratches or other damage. Note anything that isn't working properly.

   Check with your local Verizon retailer for the current price of a new model of the phone you have. Navigate your web browser to a site that sells used phones, such as eBay, and search for that model to check the average going price.

   Follow the links in the Resources section to the "SellYourCell" and "Pace Butler" websites. Check how much they offer for your model. Compare that with the average going price on eBay to determine if you could make more selling it yourself.

   Follow the instructions from the cell phone purchasing websites if their prices are highest. Print off their mailing label and ship your phone to them and wait for the check to arrive.

   Sign up for a seller's account on eBay if you choose to sell on eBay (see Resources). List your phone for sale at a minimum price you are willing to accept. Include any defects you noted earlier. State whether the phone comes with accessories, such as its power charger or a car adapter.

   Wait for the high bidder to pay you either via PayPal or a personal check. Ship the used phone to them to finish the transaction
